One Month Initiatives & Events in UAE to Celebrate International Day for Older Persons

The Ministry of Community Development announced a number of programs and activities in appreciation of senior emiratis on the occasion of the “International Day for Older Persons” coinciding 1st October each year. The Ministry encourages families, school students, volunteers and other society members participate in these social events in order to communicate and interact with senior emiratis.

On this occasion, the Ministry will organize (4) celebrations from 1st October till the end of the month distributed in the (10) social development centers all over the UAE.


Hessa Tahlak, Assistant Undersecretary of Social Development at the Ministry of Community Development, said: “The celebration of the Ministry of Community Development and social development centers across the UAE, of the International Day for Older Persons, translates the goals and pillars of the National Policy for Senior Emiratis which reflects the efforts of the UAE wise leadership in the development, empowerment and activate life of senior emiratis in the society. The Ministry’s keenness to involve various family and community members in celebration of the senior emiratis adults whom the national policy has allocated with appreciation and care, is deeply rooted in the customs and traditions of the emirati society and is passed among all the generations.


She added that the centers’ activities on the occasion of the International Day for Older Persons aims to improve the quality of life of senior emiratis in the UAE, and ensures their active and continuous participation within the UAE community based on the (7) pillars of the National Policy for Senior Emiratis:  healthcare, family care and active aging, education-employment and community participation, housing and infrastructure, financial security, security safety and transportation. These pillars come together to achieve four main goals: preventive precautions to ensure senior emiratis safety and rights in the community, innovative channels for knowledge transition and participation of generation experiences, support environment for senior emiratis life in the community, encourage joint work and competitive services in various fields,


The celebration of the Ministry of Community Development of the International Day for Older Persons includes several activities in the social development centers for one month in Dubai, Sharjah, Khorfakkan, Kalba, Ajman, Um Al Qiwain, Ras Al Khaimah, Julphar, Fujairah and Dibba Al Fujairah.


These events include field visits for community figures, recreational trips, health workshops and activities, lectures and educational courses, patient visits, sports activities and tours of shopping malls and tourist facilities, with the participation of the Development Centre staff and surrounding community members, families, children, school children and volunteers.
